FRIDAY MAY 18TH
Registration Required by May 8th!
Meet at Complesso del Vittoriano Friday May 18 from 6PM until 8PM for an incisive tour of 60 Monet Masterworks led by Art Historian Emily Dellheim.
The Monet Exhibition showcases 60 works by “the father of impressionism” that were originally kept in the artist's beloved home in Giverney before being donated to the Musée Marmottan, Paris by his son Michel. Working in all types of weather Monet transformed en plein air painting into a ritual of life. As well as illustrating the evolution of Monet's career, the exhibition also reflects on the multiple facets and richness of his artistic production. It spans his body of work from the celebrated caricatures of the late 1850s to the urban and rural landscapes of Paris, London, Vétheuil and Pourville – and his many homes; from the portraits of his children to canvases dedicated to the flowers in his garden; and includes the revolutionary paintings from his last years at Giverney of weeping willows, the path under rose trellises, the Japanese bridge and his monumetal water lilies.
Under the aegis of the Istituto per la storia del Risorgimento italiano, the exhibition is curated by Marianne Mathieu. It has been produced and organized by Arthemisia in collaboration with Musée Marmottan, Paris.
Emily Dellheim holds a Master's degree in Art History and Archeology from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University. She has worked in the curatorial departments of New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Museum of Arts and Design. Prior to her relocation to Rome in 2015 she was Deputy Director of the Center for Italian Modern Art. In addition to her work involving exhibition development, she leads museum tours and is a museum educator for MAXXI and CoopCulture.
