Dear Readers,
A busy week in the Indian Ocean, with Somali pirates making their presence felt and approaches on merchant ships off Yemen and Oman by unknown assailants.
The group of Somalis believed to be responsible for a number of attacks and approaches were scooped up by the Italian Navy contingent of EUNAVFOR and, with no time wasted, are already waiting in the Seychelles to learn their fate.
Staying in the region, the Royal Navy's Type 45 destroyer, HMS Diamond, is returning to the UK following propeller issues which couldn't be solved at sea.
In Southeast Asia, a double blow was dealt to the Abu Sayyaf Group of terrorists affiliated with Islamic State. They not only lost a group of hostages but had six of their fighters arrested in Sulu waters.
In Nigeria, with the potential for militant attacks against oil infrastructure increasing in recent weeks, the Nigerian police are to deploy patrol boats in creeks and waterways to suppress crime.
Meanwhile, closer to home, France and the UK have agreed security frameworks for closer cooperation in the English Channel.
